A Legacy of Industry Since 1919

In February 1947, Clyde converted from a private entity to a public company and was subsequently listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). The business caught the attention of international investors, and in 1976, Lonrho International acquired all shares, merging the company with Brown Bayley Steels.

Following its sale, Clyde Industrial Corporation re-entered the JSE on 2 September 1987, functioning as a holding company with a portfolio that included three wholly owned subsidiaries in the steel industry, alongside property assets supporting its operations.

By 30 August 2001, the board concluded that maintaining a JSE listing was no longer commercially viable due to low trading volumes, negative sentiment toward small-cap stocks, and high compliance costs. The company formally delisted on 1 October 2001 and began operating as a privately held investment company. Since then, the current shareholder has actively consolidated ownership, acquiring remaining minority shares.

Our Leadership

Each director plays an active executive role within the group and provides direct oversight of specific portfolio investments. The board reports to a single family trust, which serves as the company’s sole shareholder.
